I Conceed

Poetry

The words so hard to come by,

And the tears so easily shed,

The insults deliberately spoken,

And those things I should have said,

They all left me feeling hollow,

Like something has drawn at all my strength,

As we sit and avoid each others' eyes,

I stare and consider at length,

If there is any solution after all of this,

Short of just giving up all our hope,

I used to think we were beyond all this,

Now you treat the situation as if it were a joke,

I'd never have believed, even in my nightmares,

That we, invincible as we were, would end on this note,

So explain how all this came to pass,

Our love tossing in the waves: a helpless boat,

Show to me that we can overcome,

All these obstacles seemingly in our path

And go back to living our dream of a life,

To where we can smile and laugh,

Misfortunes befall us all, I conceed,

And perhaps we are each partially to blame,

But I beg you, don't leave me defeated like this,

Turn your back on my tears like rain,

If you would gather me up in your arms right now,

It just might make all be forgiven,

After all, everyone makes mistakes,

And is a life without love really worth living?
