"What is this place?" Amaya asked Kagome and Sango. THe three women stood in front of a rather large pond in the middle of no where. The full moon shone brightly down on them, illuminating their faces.
"A very special place," Sango said, a dreamy tone to her voice. Amaya furrowed her brow.
"People come here and make wishes, and your deepest desire is supposed to come true," Kagome explained.
"Facinating.." Amaya whispered, gazing into the pearly, incandescent water. "How do you know this?"
"It worked for my mother, and it worked for me," Sango said, a small smile on her face. "A long time ago, my mother made a wish here for true love. The next day she met my father."
"How did it work for you?"
"I wished I could have someone to love; someone whose shoulder I could cry upon. A few weeks later, I got together with Miroku," she said with a small blush.
"So... why bring me here?" Amaya asked. Kagome shrugged.
"I dunno. It's just, these are times of war and great bloodshed. And you've done so much to help us, we just figured at least one of your wishes should come true," she said. Amaya smiled and hugged the two women.
"Thank you both so much. I'm glad you showed me this. I know just what to wish for. Thank you." Kagome and Sango smiled and left Amaya to her wishing.
Wading gracefully into the pond, she stopped when she was knee deep in the clear water. She closed her eyes and turned her face toward the bright moon. She smiled softly as the silver moonbeans cascaded around her. She sighed contentedly and whispered her wish into the night air.
After a few moments of silence, Amaya heard the faintest rustling behind her. She turned around and smiled, seeing Sesshomaru standing at the waters edge. Instead of his usual attire, he wore a loose fitting hakama and haori that showed off more of his collar bone than normal. His armor was also missing, and Amaya rather liked the change in his wardrobe.
Amaya held her hand out to him. Without a second thought, Sesshomaru walked into the water to join his mate. He stood in front of her, his face stony as usual. She reached out and touched his face gently, her fingers inadvertantly stroking the magenta markings on his cheeks. Bringing his arm up, he wrapped his fingers around her wrist.
Leaning up, Amaya placed a small, soft kiss on his lips. Sesshomaru took this chance and slipped his tongue into her mouth. Their kisses were slow and grueling, but full of an intense amount of passion. She always loved kissing him; he showed such raw amounts of passion and emotion. Then they pulled back, Amaya nearly passed out.
He was smiling.
It was a soft, content smile, and her soul rocketed into the air. She had never seen him smile before, and she was his mate! She brought her fingers up and brushed them over his lips. He closed his eyes, his mouth retaining its smile. She blinked, and a tear sped down her cheek. She ran her thumb ever so gently over his lower lip.
When Sesshomaru opened his eyes, tears of joy were now gliding down Amaya's face. A line creased his forehead and his short lived smile vanished. One of his hands came up and gently wiped her tears away.
"Why were you crying?" he asked.
"You smiled.." she whispered.
"Was it really so terrible?" he questioned, delicately arching an eyebrow. Amaya laughed and wiped more tears away.
"No. In fact, it was so beautiful, it made me cry. It was the most beautiful, wonderful, breath-taking thing that I've ever seen in my life," she told him, looking into his eyes of molten gold.
The ghost of a smile tugged on the corners of his mouth, but didn't quite make it. For a brief moment, Amaya became aware of all the sounds around her. The crickets chirping, the wind blowing through the reeds at the waters edge. She could also hear the sound of the campfire crackling just over the crest of the hill. But as soon as she could define the sounds, Sesshomaru's voice brought her back to their own world.
"I love you."
