The Empiress' eyes grew wild behind

As mirrored image testified

"For whom could be as fair as I?"

The peasant girl just smiled

What vile thing or wicked scheme

Does justify this scene decreed?

What arrogant monstrocity?

Oh fairest one what thoughts begun

To qualify such beauty wronged

Yet time alas a song but sung

In every land but sand will stand

Consigned to dust by grand command

Til removal of its wedding hand

Yet clocks do tic as setting suns
