in-breath
and sometimes
the pain is wrapped in a blanket
cocooned softly inside
rock it softly
the child-bundle must weep
but gently
tend to her
rock the bundle, stroke her
always pain dissolves into something else
* * *
slowly, pull back the wrappings
and uncover – new light
tender, a new birth
hold her, love her
whisper to her so she will find strength
a foot in the world again
only from change can new life grow
