My grandmother owned a very old clock, it is made of a kind of wood which is called oak and it has a golden color in the pendulum of the clock, the color of the wood is brown. As my grandmother says, this clock was made around 1910 or 1920 and this was from a very famous character here in Mexico, he was Porfirio Díaz, who is very recognized because he was a famous president in Mexico who was in power for around 35 years and he was exiled after he loosed his power in the Mexican Revolution. This object is very valuable to my grandmother and my family in general because they say that Porfirio Díaz was part of our family, which I the family González. I had seen this clock since I have memory because this was always leaned against the wall in my grandmother´s living room and when I was a kid she always talked about this clock which was an inheritance from her parents and they are very excited because he was part of our family, my grandmother always cared a lot this object, she never lend this object to anyone and she prohibited all of her grandchildren and kids that come to her house. It doesn’t care if it is winter or summer she always kept it in good conditions and clean. This object also has a lot of meaning to me and my cousins and parents and my family in general because every end of the year all my family came together to my grandmother´s house to have a dinner and coexist with part of the family that we barely see; every year we sat in the living room as the tradition says and we took twelve grapes each one and while we do this, my grandmother goes to the clock and because in that period of time the batteries doesn’t existed, this clock works by turning the lever, so at twelve O´clock when the new year officially begins the clock starts to rang and at each ringing, which are twelve we eat each one of the grapes and we make a wish for the new year that is coming and also our purposes. This is why I think that this clock is very significant to me and my family because it represents more than a clock or more than a famous president, it represents the unity of our family to celebrate an important day; and nowadays I´m very proud because my grandmother gave this clock to my mother some years ago.
