Journey

Folder:
2011

I’m not as strong as I need to be
If and when I lose the ones I love
The remembrance of rightfully having only one beginning and one ending
Burns a hole in my psyche

Remorse ensues
longing for more time........

It’s my honor, privilege and responsibility alone
to take these memories in
Accepting the weight on these shoulders
and condemning the worst in me -

I ask of wiser beings than I

to bestow an honest compass

phasing out the wretched brat in the forefront
the same way I phased self-torment from the background

Accepting a new role at the round table
with vitriol anti-venom
and the same diligent practice
and hand-carved precision
that cast a saturated heart afore

I must understand there is no tomorrow in contempt -
Only a stifled punchline of spirit will remain
and a warped resolve that will seep into my pleasant dreams

Yes, trekking onward sounds like a good plan

Exuding love in a cynical world
Making and marking
footprints in the fallen snow
for those who gave me the chance to walk -
that is now my path

Channeling your courage
should these knees buckle in hardship

You can all climb aboard

We will go anywhere.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Started 8.20.11 in VA - finished 8.28.11 back home in NY, edits 1.10.13 - the process of even finishing this has been a journey. This writing definitely signifies movement, hopefully with a certain fluidity and poise - epiphany, remorse, acknowledgement, acceptance, and a declaration of action...with that in mind Journey seemed to make the most sense for a title here

An open souled poem truly!

you touched that quiet place in me that barely whispers when it speaks. Thank you for a lovely liaison that blends feelings with words, knowledge, experience and thoughts. The outcome of such carefully folded ingredients was in the end I believe this truly remarkable poem...........I am smitten with the aura of your spirit............deep poets never grow remiss......... so very sincerely, Melissa Lundeen........
