Secret flaws we cannot shake
plain deficiencies we cannot hide
burning pain deep within ourselves
as searing
as a cragged canyon
miles wide
While everything worth pursuing
demands compassion
down to the cellular level...
the singular purpose of aspiring towards perfection
as the only measure of success
will inevitably crumble
upon the ill-begotten weight of expectation
So improve,
Improve away!
...but also find serenity along the deficiencies of your honest path
while cultivating acceptance for your shortcomings
(and some of theirs, too)
convince yourself of your strengths, your worth
your talent, your voice
and make appropriate noise
as a boulder would, where menacing graveyards of sand deter
and as a member of nobody else's smooth nirvana but yours
