Anyone can love a beach
But once you leave, it's impossible to recreate the grains of sand
comprising the minute details memory offers
No, this isn't where I left my heart
This decaying former mental paradise
frigid with unspoken contempt
long from yesterday's tidal prowess
I plead to grant serenity from this place
this morose ocean of faltering self-acceptance
with its jagged icy bed of unwavering fear underneath
tearing away flesh from the bone without
layer upon layer of protection from these unfamiliar elements
like boots of cynicism, and gloves defeating the frostbite to bear
but cloaking any yearning to clasp the fresh air
ever again
No, this isn't where I left my heart
the sand stings in tandem with arctic chill
thwarting every vessel crimson once filled
deepblue

"...ocean of faltering self-acceptance..." I paused at this line and reread it several times. Amazing concept well composed and expressed ~allets~
