cities hold no meaning
like I Thought they would
they're just old and the current residents
can't deal with the price of the upkeep
orphans cry themselves to sleep
with the dreams of better tomorrow
while a junkie sells his soul for another fix
cause it's never going to come
heroes of a war they were too young to remember
ponder their lessons learned
society has made generations of disasters that see to the fall of the middle class and sit back and wonder at the fall of detroit
politicians with their manipulation and deviousness tell us how we should be
people throw away their lives because they want to believe
the messages of the false prophets
welcome to the cities where everything is sold under the
bright neon lights and darkened alleys
whiskey ,drugs , women and souls
to open my eyes to the face of pain
where the demons reign is what I hope not to do today
the exquisite pleasures once taken for granted
continue to burn somewhere now out of sight
anger and rage are cocaine for the soul
with no experience to keep it under control
sacrificing the mortal soul in the pursuit of happiness
I've wandered endlessly it seems
for some thing I could never grasp before
Love
but I build tall cold walls on top of volumes of poetry
to protect a heart
that's been broken once to many times

small towns
or medium sized ones have the same problem now as larger cities - betweeen alcohol and drugs (plus prescription drug abuse) and the $ filtering up and not down. small townships are going bankrupt. Add unemployment and the need to eat and keep cable tv and a cell phone and that equals crime is on the rise from all kinds of have-nots. The people are pissed. There will be a reckoning. It's a house of cards.
