From Darker Times I find myself wondering about the prospects
that all the gods are dead or have given
up on humanity
bless me father for I have sinned
my last confession was
then you read in the morning paper that father
was just caught molesting the alter boy
another one of the ones who preach
in the names of the father son and holy ghost
just which one do we pray to anyway a ghost ?
I refuse to be led by the faithless who are just
impatient with the inconveniences of people questioning
their interrupted ideas of immortality
blessed are those who can still believe in something
after all the evil they have seen
their god abandoning them to what may come
people dying unjustly as they deny a dire tomorrow
I tell you, do not resist an evil person
If anyone slaps you on the right cheek
turn to them the other cheek also
I'll be damned if I turn it twice
every religion born of man ends up
where they're raping plundering
and killing one another and justifying it
in the name of their god
what kind of god condones that ?
I believe in a higher force
but I don't think it gives a rats ass
about our day to day lives
or the beliefs of man's right or wrong
like the beasts of nature we just struggle
day to day

All newborn babies cry
couples fall in love
there are first times
and new beginnings
there is forgiveness
and reunions.

All elderly humans weep
and dream of glory days
and teach the young
and hope hard
and feel the pulse of all
humanity running
through old veins
that are wisdom
cast and filled with joy
owning hearts
overflowing
with beauty.
