Take the Wheel

And of course the blame was on me,

Like all other past encounters

Your crying fails to grab the attention of

a room full of those you love

Anticipating the fall

We whisper around eachother, making certain

Never to let it reach as far

As the open ear awaiting the okay

to form an opinion based on

What we all wanted to hear

I stopped listening, only long enough

To see all eyes focused on me

The mediator has failed to show concern

and backseat-drivers take the wheel

And realize they can't drive

Never stopping to ask for direction,

The little red light still flashes bright

Seatbelts never did give much support, if anything

a safety to fall back on, maybe

How safe do you feel now?

I really like this, very clever and an awesome use of metaphors. I have the imagery of crashing cars when i read it.

Favourite lines...

"I stopped listening, only long enough
To see all eyes focused on me
The mediator has failed to show concern
and backseat-drivers take the wheel
And realize they can't drive"
