Puberty (From a Painting by Edvard Munch)

Naked, afraid

Transparently thin

In the Norwegian cold

She lets the man

Immortalize her awkwardness

Building her gray-pink form

One stroke at a time...

The doe-in-the-headlight eyes

The thread-like limbs

But the defensive

Crossed forearms

Cannot hide the metamorphosis

Confusion replacing childish glee...

The shadow that hangs about her

Is what she will become

Jaded and indistinct

From the routine blandness of this world

Starward

Russell Lees's picture

I had to read this since my mousepad is a Munch painting. While not a female, you have capture the transformation of us all with:

Cannot hide the metamorphosis
Confusion replacing childish glee...
The shadow that hangs about her
Is what she will become
Jaded and indistinct
From the routine blandness of this world
