And ancient Roman Poetry was based upon numbers of syllables in the lines, but the lines had to contain a specific amount of long and short vowels---and I am not enough of a scholar to state how they determined whether a vowel was long or short.
Although I'm currently wandering in a formless style, I still appreciate my first love: classic and formal verse. Very clever, how you demonstrated your point with melodic grace. Enjoying the videos as well!

It brings memories of the pupil's years of tutelage and apprenticeship. It went against the grain for a short time but also instilled a respect and growing love and familiarity with the traditional forms, and their validly being among a wider range of literary expression.
