The heart needs dark glasses

The heart needs dark glasses for the glare
Or to hide a bruise or two.
When it escapes your fist,
Affords more sunlight than the cracks between your fingers allow,
Its shine becomes the cellophane
Protecting a package in a lingerie store
Where your tender emotions are sold.
