That day: for love of
a girl (unrequited), I
turned to poetry
for the way to tell her of
Love, desire, and history.

Author's Notes/Comments:
October 13, 1975, in the afternoon of that day after school (Senior Year); the conscious and conscientious decision that I would lay aside science fiction, and fiction in general, and concentrate on poetry; my own, then, was crude, but the study I made, guided by an excellent teacher, introduced me to the great classics, especially Dante and Milton. By the spring of my Senior year, I was reading even the great ancient Greek playwrights, Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides.
