[inspired by several of Charles Bukowski's poems]
Her new Easter shoes keep to the closet,
with shoes she has to wear to work
(until she can get herself out of them)
and shoes she wears in bad weather
(until she can get herself out of them)
and a pair she wears to funerals.
"Easter's early arrival," she says,
"makes every seasonal aspect of spring
"an article of resurrection:
"blossoms, warm breezes, fragrances,
"the busy buzzing of honeybees,
"and mists that give the mornings soft edges."
As spring's mornings commence, she reaches
for polo shirts and her favorite jeans;
and she always checks the outside temperature
for her pedal choice---barefoot or just socks?---
rather than, "Oh what shoes shall I wear today?"
