To my trust (for to trust I was ingrained)
the older students did verbal violence,
telling me Eliot's East Coker contained
words to The Sound of Silence
(Paul Simon;s lyrics, but I was naive,
easy to convince and deceive).
I searched East Coker long, and in vain,
to their amused, and very senior, disdain.
I have seen how time disburses
upon them the heavy burdens they bear.
Kept, at their wish, too far aloof to care,
I neither hear nor join their plaintive refrain
as I write and post my verses.
Starward
