One sometimes want to see---like Christ our Lord---the future's
secrets. But such vast knowledge would hurl one's small brain
into a state of mind hopelessly---utterly---insane;
or rip apart its convolutions, making vain
all effort to repair with pills, scalpels, or sutures.
Such damage would be unavoidable and swift.
The present is far safer, and that is a gift.
The veil upon the future is not ours to lift.
Starward
