Motor City Riot

What remains in sight is the shadow of my dignity

The porch swing blues

I feel like an even stronger mess

In the wake of holding on, for the sake of loving

The tattered branch fell

When for a while it hung on, in silence

I wanted to feel the hurt

So I went in by myself, like a fancy dress, like any old fool

And when I am finished

Waiting by my kitchen window

I will get my fill from somewhere else

Perhaps this greasy spoon will speak to me

Eventually, like lovers on an aero plane,

We won’t bother with distress, or just exist

I will draw back

You will draw back

As into childhood

In seconds,

The love must be gone.

So I do.

And when the girl in the war wins

We are higher than we think

She used to talk about a biography and a romance

I used talk into a radio

Like any local hero

This last bitter show on the boulevard

Is a dancer’s haven and a blonde girls Monday

But California still remains by the ocean

And the message is clear

In this motor city riot

We will meet again
