   How many more troops need to die before we all ask why?

   How many more need to die before the war becomes too

   big for the President to deny?

   How many more need to die before

   the President realizes that as he tries and tries;

   more troops die and die.

  

   You see, when they get the news, that the son has died.

   that their views disagree.

   The mothers will cry, look up into the sky, and ask why.

   "Why did you take this son of my?

   The brothers they will sigh.

   The sisters will feel a pain worse than a blister.

   The fathers will feel a pain hotter than the hottest fire.

  

All around and all around the town, the news is spread that

a soldier is dead.

News spreads like bird flu; soon everybody knows what's new.

Who is it?  Everybody knows to know, and to find out, they go.



Around town, people walk.

At the general store, they talk.

At the church, they pray that his soul and his family be ok.

At the bar, a toast to him they drink, and then think.



In kitchens at tables, In living rooms on couches, and chairs

they share the affairs of the day, which are not ok with

their family.



A soldier is dead from a bullet in the head.  

A soldier shot; they will think of it a lot.
