AND THEY CALL IT PROGRESS

               Once,

there were many buffaloes running across the plains.

the plains of the American West.

        Native Americans hunted them,

but they were respectful of them.

        Then, the train came.

        Then, the train came.

Yes, it was a great thing.

The people who worked on the railroad line hunted them.

        but, they were not respectful.

The trans-continental line was finished on May 10, 1869,

        the buffalo were too,

        just about.

        And they call it progress.

technically what youre talking about was progress. the whites of the day wanted to destroy the indian societies. force them to assimilate or die. the millions of buffalo that were slaughtered and left to rot couldnt be hunted by the natives anymore. they starved to death, or bowed their heads and moved onto the reservations. the goal of the slaughteres had been accomplished. progress...but progress doesnt always mean forwards or better. progress means you advance in your goal. a little to think on.
