Carlos, whenever I start talking about him people have different reactions. Most of the closest friends know who he is. But, for those who doesn´t have an idea, always think that I talk about a younger brother. Carlos is my younger sister’s duck. Yes, a duck. And no, we don’t live in a farm. 3 years ago my sister came home with a little duckling. An ugly duckling. He had a mixture of yellow and black color. She claims that she chooses that one because it was the ugliest, so nobody would like to buy him. After a few fights with my mom, about whether the duckling can stay in the house, she finally won with the argument: “most of these duckling would die in a week”. But Carlos no. At first he was separated from my other dogs, Tosca and Pulga. But when he was bigger enough he join the party at the backyard. They became real friends and sometimes you could see him bothering Tosca, the golden retriever, while she sleeps. Carlos is a duck, not a dog. Although he thinks he is. He could eat most of Pulga’s and Tosca’s croquettes. He could chase you and try to bite you. He would ask for some tortillas in the morning. He could understand when you said “no” to him. But Carlos is a duck, not a dog. But one special thing that differs him from being a dog: he imprinted to my sister. He knows who his mom is. He KNOWS, doesn´t thinks. He knows. He follows her throughout the house. He waits for her to open her room to be with her. And my sister considers him as his son. Carlos doesn´t like to leave the house. The door could be open and he would not get outside. One time we went to our ranch. This ranch has a lake on it. It was the very first time Carlos separated from my sister. At the first moment he saw the lake he ran into it. In his unique way of a combination of flying and running. He ran into it and took a long shower. That was the first moment we realized he was a member of a family and not just a pet. The first time that I noticed how much my sister cared about him. The first time I perceive that great bond between my sister and Carlos. Carlos is a weird pet; everyone I know had told me that. But that’s what makes my family unique. We don´t have ordinary pets so they fit in our extraordinary family.
