I think somewhere along the line we stopped working
It's obvious by the silence that we should stop talking
We don't feel anything when we're walking
and when we actually talk the monotony is daunting
We lived years yearning for each other's company
and spent days listening to each other's worries
Now calling or checking up on me is so passé
I know what actually goes on when you're too busy or sick to see me
I feign ignorance because I'm too scared
I refuse to confront you because I'm holding on to an idyllic version of what we used to be
I'm scared to prod a love that's long dead
But this isn't you and this isn't me
Our love was so strong that without words it still shone
It conquered the three absolutes : distance, time and naysayers
It wasn't perfect but we made it work because it was true and we were grown
Your voice melodic and sweet in tone
now when you speak the passive aggressiveness is as hard as stone
I started this poem hoping I could find the right words to bring us back together
I'm ending it knowing that it's time to move on and realizing the chapter of your life that I guest starred in is over
