My grandfather said that he enjoyed two things in life the most; one, building up cars out the remaining’s of the old and rusty ones that stopped working over decades ago. And two, drinking a good cold beer, It didn´t matter whether it was cold enough to freeze the water, or if the sun was withering the flowers; the one thing that mattered to him, was the refreshing coolness and the delicious taste after every single sip. Since he lived in a little town far form here, going to visit him was a one week vacation, me and my brother were left in his care and my sister was in my grandmother´s. From Monday to Sunday he woke us up early in morning to garden the flowers and trees, after finishing, he often filled two barrels that he had in the garage with water for us to take a bath, while we played in the water he was looking after us in his rocking chair with a beer in his hand and the “magic cooler” right beside him. We called it the “magic cooler” because it was a small one, able to store just up to 4 beers. And he promised just to drink the ones that were there, not one more, each day (this, in the attempted to control his drinking problem), but every time someone opened the cooler it was fill till the top. The strange thing is that he already had a beer in his hand… I guess it was just a bottomless cooler. He was always carrying it, especially when we went to a little lake, outside the town. We would grab the fishing rods and sat by the lake. With luck we would catch one or two fishes, although they were pretty small to fill one persons belly. By nighttime he would invite some of his friends to the house and have a barbecue. He really enjoyed cooking, but to be honest, he wasn´t good at it. But the smile on his face when you told him it was delicious was worth lying for. By the end of the day we would sleep in a bed next to his and watch T.V until late at night. I remember he would watch really old movies; white and black ones that only people his age have watch. Just before falling sleep, he would tell me to close my eyes and sleep well, as I would do that, I would see him give one last big and delicious sip to the beer that was in his nightstand.
Good one Pal :)
