Blueberry Time

Blueberry Time

Day breaks clear in pale whisped tones

Painted transiently on powder blue canvas

Brush strokes fade as light intensifies

Dark lake mirror absorbs and gives back hues

Rasp of aluminum on quartz sand

Knock of oars stowed carefully

Thud of life preservers carelessly tossed

Motor clamped

………..…..gas line primed

………………………… puff of oil smoke

Engine roar, bow cuts ripple accents

Island hopping begins

Evergreen piles of granite splashed

Feldspar pink, mica black, multi-colored quartz

Lichen warts raised on dapple shadowed rock

The bang of boat on stone as beachhead is made

Troops armed with baskets wicker and plastic

Invaders seeking blue gold amongst ferns and pine

Marveling at plants impossibly rooted in rock

One slag pile denuded the saga continues

The allies island hop taking purple prisoners

Secured in plastic Quonsets

Piles grow impossibly high till bow points home

Stained teeth and lips held high to the wind

With muffin and pancake dreams yet to fulfill

Author's Notes/Comments:

Vivid memories as a Child in Northern Ontario going blueberry picking.  Some of the best memories I have.  Quite possibly the most beautiful place on earth .... not that I'm biased or anything .. ;)
