Where Did They Hide Christmas

The hour was late

When the creeping kids crept,

Their eight year old feet

And their eight year old toes

Would search for the presents

While their anticipation grows

Mom and Dad were still fast asleep

And the dog was rolling over

But the sneaky pair never made a peep

As they searched like fevered soldiers

For hours they searched in the closets clutter

In the storage room where dad kept the shutters,

In the shelves that were packed with food, uneaten

And in the fridge perhaps where there were eggs, unbeaten

Finally the younger one spoke through stammered stutters

Forcing the words in a silent labored mutter,

“Have we tr-tr-tried the attic?

Have we ch-ch-checked the car?

If the presents are here

They couldn’t have gone f-f-far.”

They both sat defeated

On top of the couch

Both looked at the dog

And his snoring wet snout

Though now In the middle of this silence

a roaring was heard

That sounded pure violent

It came from the roof and it shook the whole house

And a glowing grew quick as a figure could now be made out,

He was in a red suit!

He had a huge beard!

But the dog was unimpressed

and rolled back over I hear,

Just then they both knew who this man must be

Time must have stopped for everyone but those three,

“Was it magic?”, they thought

“How could this be?”

“Did we forget the cookies?

We made a dozen, or three.”

The kids now knew that their search was in vain

Because the presents weren’t hidden

It was now explained plain,

They simply had just yet to arrive,

They were tucked tight on his sleigh

Flying like a streak in the sky.

The man glowing red had cheeks that were bright

He laughed so loud, it shook everything in sight

Though his face turned serious as he looked at the two

He said “Well, you’re up late. You know this won’t do.”

The kids knew they were wrong

To suspect the parents

Their curiosity got the best of them, that was more than apparent,

He gave them each a single gift

Then smiled so big that you thought his mouth might rip,

He told them there would be more if they went to sleep now

He made them that promise

He made them that vow,

They marched off to bed and got under their covers,

Time then resumed normally for the curious two brothers,

They awoke the next morning with a full Christmas haul!

The parents stood in shock

The mother stood in awe,

The dad drank his coffee

and he just couldn’t believe

That his kids had been this good

Santa must have been deceived

because they got much more than they should,

More than they should have received

As the brothers ripped through paper

As fast as the dad could bag it

The dog slept through it all

But this time it was more than habit,

What the boys had not seen

While they were drifting asleep

was Ol' Saint Nick spoiling that dog

With a late night treat,

He was given a bone

He was given a biscuit,

He didn’t even have to do a trick

And you know he couldn’t resist it,

It was, in its entirety

A Magical Christmas

As the dog slept fatter than a tick

As the two brothers flew through presents

As the parents watched it go down

They all basked in this amazement

It was almost if

nothing would ever phase them

The brothers would remember

That smile that might rip,

That glowing red suit

Brighter than a tree when it's lit,

And always the promise he made that night

When all those gifts that were given

A night spent feverishly searching

For a Christmas they we're sure would stay hidden
