Coincidence

Events, - we lightly name “coincidence”

That keep us stunned,  in wondering suspense;

Some think of  them as planetary freaks,

As did the ancient Persians  and the Greeks.

Coincidences there may perhaps  may be.

Or named so perhaps thoughtlessly?.

A friend,- had skipped a meeting, and instead

Went to his library - for he was mad

At someone- now he searched and found a tome,-

A work that goaded him to go to Rome;.

Urged him a different calling to pursue,-

A clarion call, he felt was overdue.

A pianist tripped hard and broke her wrist

And visited at once  a specialist,

Who set the wrist aright -and no one knows

How she became so fast the doctor’s spouse.-

A lawyer found his best associate,

By idly chatting, - for the train was late.

Tom neared a tavern for a glass of beer

But met his curate,- talked,- and changed career,

And with much zest he would henceforth explore

Apt ancient Greek texts he had loathed before;

And soon this wily businessman had turned

Into a Lecturer profoundly learned.

Some call this “Incident” or “Happenstance“-

Others “Fortuitousness” or “Random Chance“- -

This theory is not worth a jot or tittle,

We don’t expect much, thus we know so little;.

An open universe alone can show,-

Unheard of things that we thus far don’t know.

And instances we  call “Fortuitousness”

May well  be pointers to the numinous.--

That all things happen in an ordered way.

George Bernanos, the French playwright did say:

“What’s called “Coincidence”  peremptorily,

Is the Lord’s Logic”-- and I do agree.

This poem is so true!! I have to agree, I believe everything happens for a reason for it is all apart of Gods will and your poem reveals this in ways people may have not thought of. Awesome!!

Love in Christ,
Marjorie
