The Captain

Some poets in heartbreaking verse and rhyme

Lament of “Waste” and squandering of  time.

Your songs fair bards, are far too sad for me!

Let man choose HOPE, - he is  created free.

I know a Captain, true and never-failing

Who keeps our ship of life and time a-sailing-

With a strong hand this faithful  Skipper steers-

While waters rage - with wakeful eyes and ears.

He tames the surges  and the breakers’ squall-

The Skipper’s name: - “Love Unconditional”-

Who’ll fill the void of chances failed or lost-

As Sovereign of Time,- its Lord and Host.

In steady rudder strokes, by storms unfazed-

He probes the depth, but lo! - He found no waste!

He did find pearls, still in shells enshrined -

But waste, - the steadfast Skipper did not find.”

Its taken up, -  the smallest kindly deed,

He made it clear, who washed disciples feet,

But change and transformation may take place

For deeds to gain in value by His grace.

So probe- intrepid writers,- do not fear,

Make service to this captain your career;-

As “First, or Second Mate”- it matters not,

Take up the rudder, plow, or pen,- for God.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This was inspired by the complaints by some poets and writers and endless laments over waste of time.
