Lenten Prayer in Time of War
Have mercy Lord in this your Passion Tide!
Our land is threatened and we have to fight,
Your ever wakeful eyes Lord see too well
We fight against fanatic hordes of hell.
We pray for our defenders that prevent
Sinister Terror’s paw to strike our land;
We pray for all that are stretched out too thin,
To cover us so evil can not win
Pray for policemen, firemen on alert
On duty endless hours to avert
The hidden enemy now lying low
Biding his time to strike the deadly blow.
Those that from suffered loss still reel and weep
Yet bravely serve deprived of rest and sleep;
Those called by duty’s rigor that must miss
Their friends, companions and families.
Those gathering intelligence to keep
Us safe while they investigate the Deep-
Our service men and servicewomen all
That must combat the host inimical
Protect the army of enlisted souls
Now called upon to combat terror’s ghouls
And by your sacred Passion do allow
Them spurious Martyrdoms to overthrow.
Repay all those that valiantly forego
Warm comforts to combat the hidden foe.
Protect Lord soldiers in heroic strife
Who risk combating terror limb and life.
Your Spirit Lord we pray please do bestow;
To beat the crafty and fanatic foe;
Stretch forth your arm O Lord and do deflect
The arrows aimed at those that us protect
Have pity Lord! for your great suffering’s sake
And be with us in all we undertake-
Make us cognizant, mindful and aware
That you watch out for us with loving care. .
