Real experience after an accident
I pushed the shopping cart with my right hand
My coat had slipped, and trailed upon the ground;
Hair straggled out beneath a rubber band,
My plaster cast’s worn sling was badly bound.
Some lady neared and with a quick deft twist
Threaded the button holes with twine and string
Then raised the sling that held my broken wrist
And draped my coat so it would stay and cling,
And in her luminous eyes I recognized
The sympathetic loving eyes of Christ.
Before our building a construction team
By a young Nicaraguan supervised,
To let me safely pass raised up a beam;
Their garb was smelly. stained and oversized
They smiled - and I had seen the smile of Christ.

Once at church a little boy fell in play and skinned his knee. He was inconsolable as his grandmother was no where to be found. We petted and prayed and still he cried until he heard his grandmother's voice. "Now, what's all this?" she asked him as she cuddled him into her arms. "Didn't these ladies ask God to touch you?" I'll never forget what he said. "Yes, mam, but I need some arms around me." This poem reminded me of that child. We all need to feel God's love through the hands of others. Good job.
