Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people.

He said, “My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all.”

“One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, greed, ignorance, arrogance, self-pity, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, violence, superiority, and ego.”

“The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, friendship, compassion, and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Author's Notes/Comments:

Here’s a Native American Cherokee story a friend of mine sent to me on-line. I love the metaphor in it so I wanna share it with you. Don’t you think it speaks the truth? Hope you like it.

excellent piece and so true. My college friend Elaine was American Indian and she told me many of the rituals, practices, and quotes such as this one.. Perhaps if more people would listen to the Indians they would wise up!
