A Quotation from Francis Bacon

"If a man be gracious and courteous to strangers, it shows he is a citizen of the world, and that his heart is no island cut off from other lands, but a continent that joins to them."  - Francis Bacon, "Essays, Of Goodness and Goodness of Nature", 1625

I really like this because it has such strong truth to it

Nice quote. This is fave.

"If a man will begin with certainties, he shall end in doubts; but if he will be content to begin with doubts he shall end in certainties."

-Sir Francis Bacon

"Silence is the sleep that nourishes wisdom."
-Francis Bacon

And if I could find it, I would but this is the quote that I hate:

"Nature is a common little harlot." We've got to "tame her excesses." These are exact words, we have to "squeeze and mold her."

-Francis Bacon

Pretty disturbing eh? As an environmentalist and feminist I was throughly disgusted when I read that quote in high school.
