In a society in which one's appearance is the very
foundation for self-worth and acceptance,
women in my eyes suffer the consequences.
Take how advertisements today via magazines,
T.V. commercials, the internet, the malls, or
any other channel of communication, it shows thin,
slender, beautiful women poised with smiles
which tells how women in society should appear.
I find it absurd for how can everyone be just "like" that.
Girls as young as four and five are conditioned into
this narrow perspective that this is how you should be
within the future.
Barbie dolls and girlie girl accessories magnify
the prospect that slim means smiles.
Beauty means worth. Perfect everything means perfect you.
A women's hourglass figure is what you should strive for.
And imperfection means bad.
Intelligence means de-sexed and unpretty.
Plain or different or fat or freckled or too short
or too tall or anything in between is an absolute no-no.
They say, "Be a doll! Go for it!
Look how actresses you know attract attention
from around the world. See how they walk the walk.
See how they appear and talk. See how immaculate
they look as they star in movies or T.V. shows.
Or look at the fabulous models of today.
See how glamorous she looks in the ad.
Don't you want to become one too?
What about those sexy female singers who are
your role models. Are they your role models?
Wow! That's good! Because that's what reality is like."
When I see these things going on I wanna say "Blech!!!"
Don't you know girls suffer from being this
monstrous ideal of beauty?
Increasingly, girls in high schools across the country
in the U.S., for example, have become anorexic?
And don't forget actresses. They too are caught up
in it being surprisingly thin. A little too thin.
Anorexia has become a serious disease.
Or how about how in plastic surgery when there are
cases of "mishaps" that permanently damages a woman's
face or body?
People say "Beauty knows no bounds."
I say, "A narrow concept, beauty in this case,
causes so many to be brainwashed that that is the
true reality of this world when in reality, it's not."
I just wanna say, you're fine just the way you are.
Please try to accept it.
Accept who you are as a person, not what others expect of you to be...
