Murder Mystery (Case Number 3)

Get those detective caps ready folks!  Here's another round of our murder mystery cases.

"Foul Ball!"  - by Bryan

Everyone on the stadium loved watching the baseball games of their home team so much that one day an unfortunate occurance would happen to their star player, Karl Benjamin.

It was the fourth inning and the balls had been flying off the aluminum bats all game.  The score was 8-8.

Suddenly the manager of the home team came out rushing out from the dugout after he received news that Karl was murdered!

"Someone, HELP!  Call 911!"  An uproar followed.  Everyone on the team ran to the locker room seeing a disfigured body on the floor smeared with red crimson blood.  The face had been beaten severely.

You (the detective) drive off to the crime scene investigating this tragic affair.  The police gives you the little details.  The home manager also gives you the details.

"Karl hasn't been feeling well so I've let him off early.  He went off to the locker room on his own.  However, later throughout the game, three of our players ventured off into the locker room as well.  Don't know why.  But one of them could be the culprit," he whispers.

You question the first suspect, Jose Martinez.  "What were you doing in the locker room Mr. Martinez?"

"I had an important cell phone call to take.  My wife's pregnant and she's having her doctor's appointment today.  I needed to ask if she wanted me to come home early to take her there.  I had a long talk with her," he responds.

"Were you with Mr. Benjamin in the locker room?" you inquire.

"No, unfortunately I wasn't.  I came in early into the locker room before he did.  And I was in the other room the whole time on the phone.  Hey man, there's no way I'd kill him okay?  I respect this guy.  He his our "star player" after all..."

There was sarcasm in his tone of voice.  You look him straight in the eye unsure if he was telling the truth.

You, the inspector, question the second player, Mr. Paul Anderson, the pitcher.

"Sir, the manager has said to the authorities that you went in ten minutes after Karl went into the locker room.  What do you have to say about that?"

"Say?  I needed to use the restroom.  That's what!  My bladder was filled to the rim.  Needed to piss badly.  What?  You think I killed him?  How can I kill my best buddy on the field?"

You look at him suspiciously.

"No.  Really.  I'd never.  Besides, ask the manager because later he walked in right after me.  Said he needed to use the john as well."

You think for a while.  You've added another suspect to our list, the manager.

"Tell me a little more on your manager."

"Well, he and Karl have been having a few rough arguments lately.  Don't know about what but it's gotta be something serious.  I think it's about Karl's annoying behavior throughout the season."

"Alright," you answer.

Finally, you reach Steven Clark.

"Mr. Clark, when were you in the locker room timewise with Mr. Benjamin walking in?"

"It was afterwards when he went in.  I came into the locker room because I needed to change my bat.  The bat I used for the game broke during the fourth inning.  So I needed another one."

"Hmmm..." you say to yourself.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" he asks.

"Tell me about the other two guys who came in.  Do you know anything about their relationship with Karl?"

"Well, from what I've heard there's growing tension between Karl and the guys.  They say Karl is really egotistical only caring about himself and his own image.  Not the team nor the game."

"Thanks.  You can go now."

Out of the blue you call out for the manager to come and speak with you.

"Sir, Mr. Anderson stated that you've also went into the lockeroom after he went in.  What happened?"

"Well, after I had to use the restroom I found Jose screeching at me saying that he found Karl dead on the floor.  That's when we both ran out and called the authorities.  It's really gruesome to behold, his dead body you know.  I ended vomiting afterwards.  You know, it's strange.  I heard rumors from a couple of the guys that most of our players were jealous of Karl all because he's the star of the field, or what he calls himself.  I know Jose and Steven have some ill feelings toward him for sure.  Possibly his best friend Paul since they had that little dispute yesterday over Karl's behavior on Tuesday night's game."

"You can go now, sir."

"Thanks.  Ask me anything else anytime."

[Now you must solve it.  Look for the clues.  They're hidden.  Of the four suspects, who do you think killed Karl?  Good luck detectives!]

Author's Notes/Comments:

[Answer]  Awww... giving up already!  You could've at least took a stab at it!  Anyways, the killer was Steven Clark.  Remember in the beginning of the story, the team was using aluminum baseball bats.  Steven claimed his broke during the game and went in.  That doesn't make sense.  Aluminum bats can't break!  Plus, he was also the one who the other three suspects didn't see in the locker room.  The other three possible suspects saw one another during their time in the locker room.  Oh, my evidence is so hard to find!  LOL!  Hoped you like it!  Stay tuned next time!
