She was a prominent historical figure in that she wrote to her husband, John Adams (one of the founding fathers of our American Constitution) that since the colonies were going to be freed from the British, women should receive equality as well and be freed from rule under men.  Men should throw down their tyranny over women just like the Britian's tyranny over the colonies and accept women as equals.  Her husband didn't comply.  He said that to do that, men would lose control over the colonies.  That if they were to do so, it would be much harder for the colonies to fight against the British.
