You've Shoplifted My Confidence

Visit the department store

rummaging through what interests you.

Inside you're under surveillance

but because of your craftiness

the legerdemain is too subtle to notice.

As you continue your foray

you see my heart on a glass pedestal

embellished with all things true of me.

Oh little fox,

you abandon your prizes

and head for the gold;

then, all too soon make the risk.

A smirk on your face,

a dash towards the exit to freedom

what's most precious is gone, thief!

Thanks to you, it's harder to love again.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I had a heart to heart talk with one of my close friends yesterday.  It turns out that her boyfriend used her to get his ex back all along...  Thus this poem is about what happened to her.

I put off reading this poem too because I didn't like the title. It was an interesting poem. Very unique and creative. Sorry to hear about your friend. I hope he gets an STD or something. - Karyn Indursky

This poem says a lot about how she's feeling, and it sucks to be used like that!!
