3) And I Wondered

With sadness you look upon the world

As if all is lost in a hopless darkness

A moonless dream is upon your face

Reflecting the gloomy thoughts of your soul

Yet mine eyes cannot pierce your thoughts

The secret of your sorrow is hidden

   And I wonder why

God sees the hearts of Men

From His eyes, animus cannot hide

And to His prophets the truth is revealed

Though none can feel other's emotions

But your estate from me is concealed

   Your heart I cannot perceive

   And I wonder why

If the truth be known, then may the truth be told

If those who hear will hear it

And the actions of a few constitute the works of many

As the power of God is with them

The truth in actions I will take and bear before the throne

For my heart is heavy as lead

   And I wonder why

No allegiances hold I, save to the One who sent me

God hath planted me in this place

And through me He may yet work miracles

   And consider thy helpless estate

Though the lark sings at the dawn, you are sullen

My hand, also there is to grab, yet you do not

   And I wonder why

I wonder why as the trees wane and the days grow cold

   And summer 'comes the winter

I wonder how we have found ourselves at this point if not by Grace

For mistakes we have made and ills we have wrought

Powers still work in the midnight air, doing as they can

Demons whisper into your ear mortal temptations

   And I wonder why

"Even so," says the prophet though confused I am

For no power or throne or angel has enlightened me

Yet God in His mercy lends us Grace, and I am content with His plan

For He has raised the Rose from the ground on account of us

And in the end I will shout and with you sing of victory

And we will have peace, oh my soul
