Tracks In The Snow

Tracks in the snow, a fading trail.

Wagging Tails, joyful bounding.

Final play, before the parting.

Leaping puppies, chewing, running;

Chasing tails, or sire and dam.

Gentle touches, Twist wolf and mate.

Loving kisses, Ere the hunter.

silent shadows, barely seen;

Running tireless, racing night.

Lean bellies, grumbling silentley,

Two-legs "sport", so game is scarce.

Shifting breeze, sudden stillness.

Silence ripped, by grizzly roar.

Careful scouting, sniffing trail;

Two-legs' livestock, feeding bear.

Scent of cattle, flowing blood;

Thoughts of stealing, grizzly kill.

Breeze is shifting, yet again.

Angry two-legs, bringing guns.

Fury and fear, fight or flight?

Thoughts of pups, and den, and death.

Wuick retreat, to forest shadows;

Watch and wait, and see what follows.

Angry two-legs, shouting, pointing;

Innocent wolf-prints, in the snow.

None notice, no one cares.

Grizzly markings, all about.

Snow is falling, thick and heavy;

But still two-legs, track and follow.

Following, tracking, hunting, killing.

innocent blood, spilled on virgin white;

Cries of wolf, forever stilled.

Tracks in the snow, a fading reminder!
