How did it make me feel
Seeing it all when I closed my eyes
The Sun beating brutally down
Light so bright I had to squint or be blind
Realising how wrong it is
To be unafraid in that strange place
Around those strange people
Watching them all pair off
two by two behind glass, on leather
And seeing him (why him?) with that woman
While mine beckoned to me from the old car
unbuttoning denim, eyes locked on mine
Then there were Smiles and Skin
reckless abandon on a dusty gravel lot
And still the sun beat down
Still people walked in and out of the stores
They couldn't see what we were doing
We wouldn't care if they could
Such happiness in my grasp
Such a Torture so sublime
You can never see it coming
It only hurts when you open your eyes
Dreams are such a fickle tease
Giving you the world
So you can wake up empty handed
Reminded only of what you haven't got
How did it make me feel
For just a splinter of time
I was complete
