Morning of 24th August 2014

***********************

I normally get off bed by seven in the morning.Although I can sleep late I don't because it may make me lazy Smile Moreover I have to open the main door downstairs so that the maid can come in to wash and clean.A street dog is living with me indoors since 2003 and he has to be fed some breakfast and taken for his hygeine. As I type on the keyboard he is lying on the ground dozing and waiting fro "Lunch Call".He doesn't know how to tell the time but he "knows" when lunch is overdue and he sits upright and barks.

No.. I'm not writing about my pet dog.Just an hour after I woke up,opened the windows which were shut overnight for fear of theft, made two cups of tea, drank a glass of water and sat at the stone dining table sipping hot sweet tea.It tasted wonderful !!! Was there anything special to do that morning ? No .. none wahtsoever except fetch my new spectacles from the optometrist. The newspaper was not yet delivered. The newsman doesn't come before 8.30 a.m.Moreover today is Sunday !! No reason to complain.I lit a cigarette and stepped onto the netted covered balcony overlooking my neighbours backyard.Three trees grew conspicuously.A mango tree, a coconut tree and a jackfruit tree.

Often I catch glimpses of a colourful woodpecker and the daily visits sparrows and crows screeching and cawing. Vagrant dogs and cats also stray into the yard and create much noise without any plausible reason. However much I wanted to I could not capture the photograph of the woodpecker and the occasional parrot who strays in during early winter. The wire netting is too small for a snapshot !! Moreover, what is the purpose of taking a photograph ?? None ...

Today as I gazed languidly out of the netting feeling the warm early morning sun on my bare chest, I spied a tiny fluttering creature on the mango tree. It was a very small bird about five inches from tip of tail to beak and an orange-yellow throat and underbelly.I birdwatched to my hearts content until it flew away. Those few minutes were indeed the best moments of today. It was so energetic and frisky flitting from branch to branch. No cares, no worries, only a god-given instinct to live and die with it.. never to be lent, shared or borrowed.

Morning of

WinkMy Friend an old saying in Great Britain goes,

Early to bed,Early to rise, Makes a man healthy, wealth and wise. I do not know how wealthy you are But wise yes, I read between the lines and your stories are very enlighening.Today little story will i think give you something to smile about. The weather at the moment is dull and it has a promise of rain. The Farmers need the rain for the winter crops. I myself here in town can do without the day time rains. I am happy if it rains all night long.bAt the moment we are bothered with flies. The pesky beasts get into the flat as soonas we open a window. Tghe reason is that the outside walls are cooling down and the flies are looking for a warm place for the coming winter.Laughing Keep smiling hope that it is not too warm where you live in India. All the best of wished from Bern and loved one, Marthas.
