Cry of Bugles

=============

Indeed the messy battles of yore

Marching ahead bugles at the fore

With gusto the buglers blow

Like crashing storm soldiers follow

The dreadful cacophony begins

Continues unabated for long hours

Blood gushes through sliced flesh

The cannons are behind the wire mesh

Charging with rifles and bayonets

Kill or be killed rings in ears

The veteran soldier falls to a bullet

Perhaps this is what a soldier fears

Beating retreat the bedraggled batallion

The bugles hung on waists sing melancholy

Tears ne'er shed for the departed souls

Why the bugle cries ? no one knows !

Author's Notes/Comments:

Blow, Bugle, Blow

THE splendour falls on castle walls
And snowy summits old in story:
The long light shakes across the lakes,
And the wild cataract leaps in glory.
Blow, bugle, blow, set the wild echoes flying,
Blow, bugle; answer, echoes, dying, dying, dying.

O hark, O hear! how thin and clear,
And thinner, clearer, farther going!
O sweet and far from cliff and scar
The horns of Elfland faintly blowing!
Blow, let us hear the purple glens replying:
Blow, bugle; answer, echoes, dying, dying, dying.

O love, they die in yon rich sky,
They faint on hill or field or river:
Our echoes roll from soul to soul,
And grow for ever and for ever.
Blow, bugle, blow, set the wild echoes flying,
And answer, echoes, answer, dying, dying, dying

Cry of Bugles..

Bishu, I came across your poem based on Lord Tennison. As an ex Soldier I feel that I must tell you of the Bugler playing lights out. A most beautiful sound that left no Soldier cold. With this sound ringing inlone,s ears one slept soundly through the long nights. Best wishes from Bern

My Dear Respected Mr Bern Sir

My Dear Respected Mr Bern Sir ,

Your experiences are different from me . I know nothing of war except that they are not happy affairs. Both sides lose something. But maybe for some it's a way to earn a livelihood.I just tried to be on a battlefield in my words and Lord Tennyson's historic poem kick-started me. Thank you very much for your esteemed words in the favour of a miniscule writer. ~See you on the minefield~ Laughing
