Beas

Smooth rounded boulders strewn along its banks

The Beas swished and gurgled along

Its cool water lapped my feet as I sat on a rock

Sounds of the buses and cars on the highway

Stifled by the sweet roaring of the melted river

Partly immersed the rock on which I sat

The immersed part whitish grey washed clean

I gazed around and above in the June afternoon

Only three kilometres away from Manali

I cupped my palms and drew water

Splashed on my tensed and stressed head

It felt as like a cool pillow on a bed

For once I was happy that I was not so dead

The view of the distant mountains some wise with snow

I was at peace with nature my happiness did show

The pine trees on the hills green

Oxygen was a plenty- peace was overflowing the banks

The air conditioner of nature in full blast

I felt like casting off my clothes and my wristwatch

Felt like staying put there silently listening to unnamed birds

Twittering and screeching in the far away hilltop village

A pariah dog curled up lazing in the shade

How I envied it !! this was the dog's home !!

The "jhoola" connecting the highway and the village

Then it began drizzling- I opened my umbrella

Watched the fresh raindrops mosaicing the water

A couple of hours in heaven I believe in

I cursed my fate and vowed to be back the life after

...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "
