Dewdrops on the window sill
Smoke belching chimney at the night-shift mill
Hearths glowing cooking the workers' food
In humble shacks levels their weary mood
All night toiling from ten to six
Beside red hot boilers man's bag of tricks
Who needs those fancy soaps? fancy treats?
Artificial want charges in.. need retreats
Sweet,fragrant,fluffy decorated cakes
Unskilled worker never a piece partakes
His children born in poverty - roughly clad
Under the moon and dew they miss their dad
Four brick walls and an asbestos roof
Picture of Goddess Laxmi on the humble wall
But his wife is proud to make happy all
She doesn't hope for much just"rotis" and "bhaji"
For her her hubby and and their two small children
Are they not like rabbits in an underground warren?
Life is not a bed of roses for them
Nor is it a rough bed of thorns
They enjoy their role in a bed of hay
Savour dewdroplets as they come their way
A tiny packet of groundnuts ,sometimes a balloon
An egg for dinner,a piece of chicken the week after
Rain drizzling on the roof "khichdi" on the platter
Five hundred Rupees for a night dinner out
Those ads in the papers what's it all about ?
Turkey for Christmas,Champagne for New Year
Where are those people?when will they come near?
Shall the factory walls ever be broken down?
Then Dad can walk home and see his son bed down
Then he'll walk back to his modern-day cauldron
For that he has to once die and be again born

Maybe this month some gold
Maybe this month some gold coins will come their way. It is after all, the month of Mata Lakshmi! Nice write, Bishu. I enjoyed.
.....
...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."
"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

Under The Sun And Dew...
I love this image - the streamlining transition of dew evaporating perhaps or both existing together (dew as time or tears works well also). Wondrous write - of joy inspite of toil and lack then introducing reincarnation - the dew will return, the sun will return - lovely ~Lady A~
