Gone are those days when poets wrote treasures
In 2013 their likes are extinct..none give pleasures
Me ,a fortnight back- an aspiring poet took up a pen
More than a hundred scraps all scrappy - almost insane
Thoughts of Mac Cay flood my human mind
But today's poets can't write that way.. they're not the kind
Not kind to their passion -- to get reads their mission
Maybe publish a ten dollar poetry book designed
to feign poetry ,not real literature... most unkind !!
The words are there .... the thoughts are there
But who can weave them? poets are in a snare !!
A scrap book the Poet had .. did he write that bad ??!!
In his own judgment.. they were pieces of glass shard !!

Glad to hear it. The neglect
Glad to hear it. The neglect of Cunningham's work, presently, is shameful. He was alive and still writing when I was an undergrad, but my college's English Department was about thirty years behind the time, and still dominated by the critical theories of T S Eliot, who had been dead for over a decade. So poets like Cunningham, who, himself, actively disliked Eliot's work, were ignored. Cunningham was a great way to learn how to rhyme,so I availed myself of his excellent example, no thanks to the department of English at my college.
