Pigeon Diary

Whether this is a diary or a true event, I don't really know , but one thing I'm sure of is that it is a "burp" ... I forewarn readers that this mayn't be upto the upto the postpoem standards set over the years.... So I type . as I had gone through about a week back ::

What time was it ? sometime around eleven in the morning. I was sitting at my dining table reading a local newspaper. I happened to wander into my bedroom and perceived a grey-black pigeon perched on the grille of the window. Fetching my cellphone I clicked a few photographs which didn't turn out well because of the sunlight falling on the lens.

Expecting the bird to fly out of the window soon , I left it where it was. Even after an hour it was still perched happily. I talked to it in a soothing polite voice asking it to leave, but it stayed put giving me innocent looks. It was a young pigeon and wandered into the room by mistake. Then I made noises trying to scare it away with no results.

I took a walking stick and banged on the grill.... then with a great deal of hesitation I was compelled to poke its body with the walking stick. This made it fly from its window perch onto the top of a wooden cupboard. I  called out to my wife asking her to suggest something. She suggested that I catch it and put it out of the window. But she wouldn't do it herself. I tried to grab it into a coverlet but it flew up to another perch on another almirah in the room. I climbed on a one-foot high plastic stool and tried to put the cloth on it for the second time. No luck...

Finally after being poked for the fifth time the hapless pigeon sat perched within hands reach on a pile of mosquito nets and bed sheets. This time I hesitatingly grabbed its warm, soft, quivering in the sheet and asked my wife to open the door to the terrace. I opened the sheet and released it and in the process the sheet flew out of my hands and landed on my front yard. My wife climbed downstairs and collected the sheet.

"Tiny activities such as this are engineered in heaven to give us happiness"

Birds In The House

In a complex world, a simple telling is so welcome. A winged visitor, a kind host, a lesson in hospitality and another rarity, accomodation. Enjoyed - slc
