Gray Grannies

:::::::::::::::::::::::

The world around is not yet seen

Numerous family troubles in between

They cooked they cleaned they loved

Their soft hands became chafed

Years have flown past their black wings

None of the youngsters had taken heed

Of their inner desires - they're another breed

They too wanted to have nights out

To eat delectable food in cool comfort

We returned late  night after night

They were always at the door to open

Nary a complaint nary a glum face

Their staple of two chapattis and curry

We bid farewells in a great hurry

They are the unpaid baby-sitters

These gray thoughts gives me the jitters

Can we not spend an hour with them ?

Why should we ? they've nothing to give

Yet they smile yet they forgive

Only one cheap sari and blouse

During the festivals accepted with smiles

Watching Mahabharata and Ramayana

Those crappy foolish yarns of yore

For the youngsters these are a bore

Glitz and glamour of the home screen

Never a soap serial shared in between

They'll go soon .. Modern Grannies are in

Grayed Grannies are being phased out

They shaped the Modern Indian youth

Narrating stories from "Thakurmar Jhuli"

Their soft ample bosoms lulled us to sleep

For such Grannies gone should we weep

They've left a legacy for us to keep

[In memory of my departed granny who died in April 1987]

A Comment From Bern

Stop the world, all of us can get off now. Bern commented on a Bishu poem. Woooowwwww! Impressive! - The tribute to old world granma's touched me deeply, jitteryly too. I am writing it down in my autobiography as "legacy". I wonder if it will be read by the new youth? - Peace : )~

My Thank Tank will become empty

But I mustn't be stingy ... Thank You Birdy Lady !!!!!! An Elephant & an Ant can't be compared can they ? We all have worlds of our own though spinning on the same Earth. Just hope that it'll not stop spinning before our Poets Meet on 1st Jan 2060 Laughing
