In the hot afternoon of Mid-May I was at a loss since I wasn’t happy.I’m usually happy but this particular afternoon I wasn’t… There was no rain for over ten days and the outside was scorching. A wise faraway friend (you know who)told me to be content with what happens to the weather.Rain Gods aren’t my personal ones.

Bare-backed I sat under the shade of a leafy tree watching time float by with the cumulous clouds in the sky. A month-long “Chandi Puja” is held in my locality in a “Kali” Temple beginning 19th.The temple will be overcrowded with devotees who offer pujas and pray for Goddess Kali’s blessings.I myself am fond of the cheap-stall fair held at the temple’s precincts.My wife said that rains must pour on 19^th .

This is the problem with my scribbles.. I wander away from the topic. No wonder I get poor grades in Compositions.

So where was I ? yes .. sitting lazily leaning against the trunk of a tree feeling very very drowsy from the intense heat.After I had rested for an hour I opened my burning sweaty eyes and looked closely at the tree. The bark was very very old as were most of the branches. No new branch was growing. Huge fissures had appeared on the trunk and branches. Some of them almost four inches deep.

My laziness left me.. I no longer felt unhappy or hot.I realized I had work to do. I had to restore the tree to its original glory.I trundled into my home and fetched a tall ladder, a tin can, a brush and a large tin of Stickfast adhesive. With much care the crevices were filled arduously and I painted them brown-grey. The trunk and branches shone beautifully like a young tree.I was happy once again and went for lunch and afternoon siesta.

Then the rain came in torrents !! I ran to the restored tree and sadly gazed as my work of art was washed away by the raindrops. The crevices and Rain Gods seemed to mock at my ignorance. Yes Dear Austromate I’m sorry. I shall never ever do this again and let Nature have its own way.
