The Wicker Basket.

The Wicker Basket.

It was just a wicker basket fairly new that a woman wanted to sell me on my front door step. I did not want a basket and was determined to send her away. Suddenly a picture of fresh mushrooms flashed through my mind. Why the wicker basket would be handy for collecting mushrooms. I decided to buy the basket. I gave the woman a few shillings, more than the basket was worth but she looked poor and I have a soft heart. The woman turned to go when she called, “your basket will always be full, bless you.” and off she went. Taking the basket into my kitchen I thoroughly scrubbed it with soap and water and hung it on the outside line to dry. In the evening I placed the basket ready on the table for my mushrooming session the following day.

After washing and dressing I went downstairs to make my breakfast. The old kitchen range still had a glow in it and I quickly put coal on to the embers to start boiling my copper water kettle. I always start the day with a couple of cups of sweet tea with my breakfast. I finished my breakfast and washed the breakfast dishes before taking the wicker basket and going off on my mushroom trip. It was not long before I had filled the basket with the fresh mushrooms. Today for my lunch I would make myself a mushroom soup and deep fried mushrooms for the main course.

On my way home I met a couple of Leprechauns they looked longingly at my basket filled with the fresh mushrooms. I had too many for just one person and I quickly gave the two Leprechauns some of my mushrooms. They were delighted and I watched them hurry home to cook their midday meal. Going in to my kitchen I placed the wicker basket on the kitchen table when I noticed that the basket was if anything so full it was as if I had not given the Leprechauns any of my midday meal. The same thing happened again and again; every time I filled my basket with blackberries or nuts and I gave some away by the time I arrived back at my house the wicker basket was more than full.

One day while resting under the old oak tree I saw a woman walking towards me. Somehow I thought that I had seen her before. Then I remembered the woman with the wicker basket it was the same woman. As she came towards me she changed a bright flash of blue and Her Majesty Queen Feeanna smiled at me. You have put the wicker basket to good use and I am delighted that you always give whatever you have in the basket to others so that they may enjoy your good luck. Her Majesty disappeared as she had come in a flash of bright blue light. I was left to enjoy my afternoon nap. Bern
