Thursday Rumours.
Once a week usually on Thursday I go into town to get my weeks shopping. Fairies have noticed that on Thursday mornings I am not at home. I am not in the clearing by the old oak. Rumours are going round Fairyland. Some say I go to visit a lady friend others that I go to the public library. One or two say that I go to school to study all about the insects and the wild animals. None have seen me loaded with shopping bags and I thought that it was about time for me to stop the silly rumours. I decided that on my next Thursday’s shopping I would invite six Fairies to accompany me.
Wednesday of the next week I went to the clearing and invited six Fairies to come with me to see what I really did while I was away. I warned them that they must be on their best behaviour; all promised that they would accompany me and all would be on their best behaviour. Thursday morning six Fairies were excitedly waiting for me to leave the house. I locked the front door after me and walked with the Fairies flying around my head to the bus stop. The bus arrived on time and I boarded the bus with the Fairies still flying around my head.
Taking a seat the bus pulled away from the curb with a jerk and that set the Fairies off laughing. They were beginning to enjoy their day out. Six stops later with each stop a bumpy jerk as the bus pulled away again and the Fairies were enjoying the bumpy ride immensely. I must admit they were all on their best behaviour and not one the Fairies interrupted or annoyed the other passengers on the bus. At the next bus stop I got up from my seat and walked to the exit door. Stepping of the bus as it stopped I made sure that my six Fairies had accompanied me.
My next move was to walk to the Newsagent to pay for my weekly newspapers. The Fairies entered the shop flying around my head and giggling to themselves. The shopkeeper luckily for me could not hear them or I might have had some explaining to do. My next shop was the Butchers. Here I bought a piece of steak for my Sunday dinner and some lamb chops for one of the next days. The Fairies were all crowded around the door they would not enter the shop and I paid and went on to the Greengrocers. Perhaps I should not have gone to the Butchers shop for none of the Fairies spoke to me. I next went to the Grocers and bought sugar, butter, tea, a packet of coffee and four packets of ginger snaps.
I had finished my shopping and told the Fairies that I was now going into a small café for a cup of coffee if they wanted I would buy six portions of strawberry ice for them to eat. This of course pleased the Fairies and we entered the café. I sat myself down and waited for the waitress to come and take my order. The look on her Face when I ordered one cup of hot coffee and six portions of strawberry ice cream. She must have thought that I was not right in my head for she put the cup of hot coffee in front of me and lined up the six portions of strawberry ice cream. The waitress could not see the Fairies and as I drank my coffee the Fairies ate their ice cream. She kept looking over to where the Fairies and I were sitting. The portions of strawberry ice vanished down the throats of the Fairies and I drank my coffee. I called for the bill and paid the waitress praising the ice cream it was delicious. The Fairies were now laughing and pulling faces at the woman it was a good thing that she could not see the fairies.
We had another bumpy ride home the Fairies left me to take my shopping into the house and what do you know no more rumours are floating around Fairyland as to where I spend my Thursday Mornings. Bern
