The Lost Magic Wand.
The whole of Fairyland is on the look out for Her Majesties lost Magic Wand. When I say the whole of Fairyland I mean not only the little people but also the birds and the other wild animals that roam freely throughout the Heath at Dartford. Anyone trying to use the magic wand would be in for a terrible shock. They would slowly disappear first the hand would become invisible then the arm and slowly the whole body. All had been warned about using the Queen’s Magic Wand and no one that lives in Fairyland would want to disappear and not be seen again.
Daily the birds of the air would report to Her Majesty also the Fairies and Pixies, the Trolls could not be trusted and they were the only ones not told about the loss. I was asked to help in the search and I had the idea of drawing a map of Fairyland and with the use of the map search the squares that I had made on the map. Party after party of Fairies with a copy of my map looked through Fairyland square by square. Mostly what was found turned out to be rubbish that Humans had carelessly thrown away. The birds just kept their eyes open; mostly they had other problems such as feeding their families of fledglings (Baby Birds) although many things were found there was no trace of Her Majesties Magic Wand.
No one had disappeared so that meant that no one had found the lost Magic Wand and used it wrongly. I then asked Her Majesty if I could have her permission to search her cottage. Her Majesty agreed and I went through Her Majesties cottage with a fine toothcomb as the saying goes. Nothing apart from the Magic Wand was missing and the whole thing was very mysterious. I asked Her Majesty whether the Magic Wand could have been mislaid. Her Majesty had last used the wand a week ago and not since. The Magic Wand was kept in a fine embroidered cover; once again I had an idea. If Her Majesty would take the fine embroidered cover and place it on her Magic Mirror perhaps that would tell us something about the missing wand.
Her Majesty took the cover and placed it on to her Magic Mirror. Pictures appeared in the mirror first a fine needle then different coloured silks then a picture of Her Majesties hands sewing fine small wild flowers onto the cover. This was fascinating and I watched with great interest as stitch after stitch slowly formed a clump of violets then buttercups appeared and many other flowers. The last picture to be shown was of a black and white bird a Magpie. The Magpie was seen to pick the Magic Wand up in its beak and fly off.
Her Majesty was amused at the Magpie stealing her Magic Wand and decided to teach the Magpie a lesson that it would not forget in a hurry. Her Majesty took some round glass; very thin balls a little bigger than a Magpies egg. In the balls she; through a very fine needle injected some mixture that was in one of her cupboards into each ball. The balls glittered and the window was left open for the Magpie to fly in and steal the balls.
The last ball vanished and her Majesty caused all of the balls that were now in the Magpies nest to break just as the Magpie was sitting on her eggs. The stink from the glass bally was terrible and the Magpie flew off complaining bitterly at the sudden stink in her nest. The Owl was the first to report the strange behaviour of the Magpie and she flew off with me following. We came to a tall Elm Tree in which she the Magpie had built her nest. I asked the Owl to fly to the nest and see what the Magpie had stolen. The Owl came back with Her Majesties Magic Wand in it claws. Dropping the Wand into my outstretched hand the Owl flew back to the nest. All of the odd glittering jewellery that the Magpie had stolen from the Fairies cottages were now safely in my hands.
I had the pleasure not only of giving her Majesty her stolen wand but also of giving back to the Fairies the stolen Jewellery. Bern
